The most versatile care and maintenance device in vascular access

Standard of care in vascular access typically involves the use of multiple products for securement and insertion site protection. See how SecurePortIV® Catheter Securement Adhesive is combining multiple patient and caregiver benefits into one product:

Securement

Stabilization and securement products that attach to the catheter hub can still allow a catheter to piston at the insertion site which may lead to phlebitis, malposition of the catheter tip and/or complete dislodgement.

SecurePortIV catheter securement adhesive secures both the catheter to the insertion site and the hub to the skin, reducing catheter movement, migration and dislodgement.

Sealant

Vascular access device insertion punctures the skin and vessel wall creating a wound that doesn’t heal due to the presence of the catheter. Patient conditions such as low platelet counts can impact the normal clotting process making it difficult to maintain a clean and dry dressing. Use of a scalpel to create a skin nick to facilitate device insertion and catheters with coatings or other surface modifications designed to reduce the accumulation of thrombus can also prolong insertion site bleeding that can hamper dressing integrity.

Clinical studies suggest cyanoacrylate skin adhesives like SecurePortIV® completely seal the insertion site, helping to minimize non-routine dressing changes.1-2

Antimicrobial

Skin preparation agents used in vascular access are unable to sterilize skin. One study demonstrated bacterial growth in over 80% of the samples taken after disinfection of the skin immediately prior to an intervention.3 Skin flora can migrate to colonize the extraluminal surface of a catheter which could lead to an infection.

The cyanoacrylate formulation used in SecurePortIV has demonstrated antimicrobial activity against gram-negative and gram-positive bacteria, yeast and fungi commonly associated with catheter related bloodstream infection in in-vitro studies4 and has shown it can mitigate the spread of microorganisms by immobilizing skin flora in clinical studies.5

Versatility

  • Allows direct visualization of insertion site at all times
  • A single SKU can be used for virtually any type of catheter
  • Can be safely used in neonates and patients sensitive to chlorhexidine
  • Requires minimal surface area beyond catheter footprint for securement making it adaptable for any anatomical location and tiny patients like premature babies
